Oceana Boulevard

Located in Southampton situated on a busy thoroughfare in close proximity to the sea, Oceana Boulevard is a multi-million pound 12 storey residential development consisting of 280 flats/penthouses with a gymnasium. The ground floor is used for commercial use with two commercial units and the basement is used for parking covering the total footprint of the building. The building has been designed and built with a super-structure consisting of an in-situ concrete frame with flat slab construction throughout.

Axis Fire and Security designed a fire detection system to support the change of the evacuation strategy from stay put to simultaneous evacuation, to ensure early detection and warning of a fire throughout the building including the apartments.

Our performance objectives were to provide a fully automatic fire detection and alarm system to satisfy the area coverage. We were asked to supply and install main control and indication equipment, all system wiring, 230V fused connection units, heat detection within all rooms with a window or opening. Sounders in all apartments to achieve at least 85dB, visual alarm or vibration devices deemed required by any vulnerable persons, programming, commissioning, and monitoring connecting the system to a remote alarm receiving centre.

We approached this project by installing a category L5 fire alarm system. The L5 category alarms are a specific type of automated fire system that tackles fire hazards in high-risk areas. Our installation team installed an EDA Zerio Plus wireless fire alarm system this is a completely wireless solution with only the panel requiring a wired connection to 230Vac. The EDA Zerio Plus is fully EN54 certified and is designed for use in any type of commercial or residential premise.

As with any wireless system a comprehensive site survey was carried out this is deemed necessary, the survey ensures there is adequate signal strength throughout the property any areas found with weak signal require a booster. The Zerio Plus is compact, has sophisticated cause and effects and is user-friendly. The automatic set-up and learn modes simplify configuration decisions, reducing the possibility of errors.

We supplied and installed 10 zone radio control panels, 18 network communicators, 31 radio booster units, 75 wired intelligent antennas, 921 Zerio Plus heat detectors, 23 Zerio Plus clean contact output units, 272 Zerio Plus radio electronic sounders. Furthermore, we commissioned, provided full certification, and provided a handover with a demonstration of the new fire alarm system.
